Emirates' inaugural New York A380 flight sold out

Emirates Airline (Dubai) received an overwhelming response to the announcement of their inaugural Airbus A380 flight to New York on October 1, 2008. Within minutes of the announcement yesterday, first class and business class had sold out; as did all but nine (9) economy class tickets. Emirates’ A380 offers a total of 489 seats; 14 in first, 76 in business and 399 in economy class.

Singapore Airlines gets third A380



Singapore Airlines (Singapore) has taken delivery of its third Airbus A380 (9V-SKC msn 006) Superjumbo jet. The aircraft is scheduled to start daily flights to London on March 18, 2008.

SIA A380 arrives at Heathrow on first European commercial service

Singapore Airlines has completed the first commercial Airbus A380 service to Europe after flight SQ308 touched down on London Heathrow’s runway 27L at 14:48 today.
The 471-seat aircraft departed Singapore Changi Airport with 449 passengers at 08:58 and docked at Heathrow’s Terminal 3.
SIA operates thrice-daily to Heathrow. The A380 has today temporarily replaced the Boeing 747-400 normally used by SIA for the daylight service.
It will undergo a four-hour turnaround at Heathrow before departing on the return leg, as SQ319, at 18:55.
From tomorrow the A380 will be switched to SIA’s overnight service, arriving in London at the earlier time of 05:25, and at 05:55 when the summer schedule begins on 30 March.
Three A380s are in service with SIA. The aircraft used for the Heathrow flight today is MSN005, the second to be delivered. The carrier operates the Singapore-Sydney route with the type and will begin daily A380 services to Tokyo on 20 May.

Emirates' first Airbus A380 breaks cover in Hamburg

Airbus has released pictures of the first Airbus A380 destined for Emirates being rolled out of the paint shop at the airframer's plant in Hamburg.
The aircraft, which was ferried from Toulouse to Hamburg for customisation last September, has undergone cabin interior installation and painting at the German factory. It is equipped with Emirates' three-class, 489-seat layout (14 first class, 76 business and 399 economy class).
This aircraft - which Airbus says was rolled out of the paint shop on 14th March - will now undergo modifications that have resulted from the flight-test programme to bring it up to production specification, as well as finalisation of cabin furnishings requested by the customer.

Delivery of the first of Emirates' 58 Engine Alliance GP7200-powered giants is expected in July, with the type due to enter service on the airline's Dubai-New York service on 1 October.
Later deliveries will be equipped with a medium-range three-class 517-seat configuration or a medium-range two-class configuration with 604 seats.
